Case IH 2097 – Transmission Controller (TRANS): Clutch 5 not calibrated

Issue description

The transmission control system does not have a valid calibration value saved for the Clutch 5 (C5) engagement point, which is necessary for smooth shifting and operation.

Applies to these machines

  • Maxxum
  • Tractors equipped with powershift or CVT transmissions (50kph transmission variants)

Check the cause

  1. Check for active electrical fault codes related to the Clutch 5 circuit (e.g., 2098, 2099, 2100, 2101)

  2. Ensure the tractor's battery is fully charged

  3. Verify the transmission fluid is at normal operating temperature, as cold oil will cause calibration procedures to fail

Repair steps

  1. Resolve electrical faults

Resolve any active electrical faults (open/short circuits) related to the C5 solenoid or C5 dump solenoid.

  2. Enter calibration mode

Enter the tractor's transmission calibration mode via the in-cab display/instrument cluster or by using the CNH dealer Electronic Service Tool (EST).

  3. Run automated calibration

Follow the on-screen prompts to run the automated calibration for Clutch 5 (or the full transmission clutch pack suite).

  4. Inspect components

If the calibration fails repeatedly, the C5 solenoid, C5 dump solenoid, or the internal clutch pack itself may be mechanically sticking or failing, requiring physical inspection.

Parts you might need

(3)
  • Clutch 5 Solenoid (C5 Solenoid)

  • Clutch 5 Dump Solenoid

  • Clutch Pack / Plates

If internal mechanical failure is diagnosed
