Case IH 2101 – Transmission Control Module (CCM / MTA): Clutch 5 dump solenoid – open circuit

The transmission control system has detected a break in the electrical circuit (an open circuit) for the dump solenoid that controls Clutch 5. This specific code is applicable only to the 50kph transmission variants.

   Verify the transmission oil temperature is at least 60 °C, as this temperature is required for testing and calibration.

   Inspect the wiring harness leading to the Clutch 5 dump solenoid on the transmission valve block for any visible breaks, chafing, or disconnected plugs.

   Disconnect the solenoid connector and check for corrosion or pushed-out pins.

   Use a multimeter to measure the resistance across the Clutch 5 dump solenoid terminals. An infinite resistance (OL) confirms the solenoid coil is internally open and requires replacement.

   If the solenoid tests within specification, perform a continuity test on the wiring harness between the solenoid connector and the Transmission Control Module (CCM) to locate the open wire.

   Ensure the tractor is parked on a level surface, the engine is off, and the parking brake is applied.

   Locate the transmission valve block where the clutch solenoids are mounted.

   Typically on the top or side of the powershift/CVT transmission housing.

   Disconnect the electrical connector from the Clutch 5 dump solenoid.

   If the diagnostic checks pointed to a wiring issue, repair the broken wire or replace the affected harness section.

   If the solenoid itself is faulty, thoroughly clean the area around the valve block to prevent dirt from entering the transmission hydraulic system.

   Remove the retaining hardware holding the Clutch 5 dump solenoid and extract the valve.

   Install the new solenoid with new O-rings and secure it to the valve block.

   Lubricate the O-rings with clean transmission fluid.

   Reconnect the electrical connector.

   Clear the fault code.

    Perform a transmission calibration (Quickfill Adjustment).

    Using the upshift/downshift switches, select the clutches and adjust the quickfill settings (measured in milliseconds, typically between 30 and 190 ms). Test the quickfill setting by shifting the shuttle lever to forward and slowly releasing the clutch pedal. Adjust the setting until engagement noise is minimized but response is not too slow.
