2111

Case IH 2111 – Transmission Control Unit (Trans / TCU): FNR Neutral Switch high Voltage fault

Issue description

The controller is receiving a voltage signal from the Forward-Neutral-Reverse (FNR) switch that is higher than the expected normal operating range. This typically points to a short to power, an open circuit in the wiring, or an internal failure of the FNRP (Forward-Neutral-Reverse-Park) switch assembly.

Applies to these machines

  • Magnum
  • Steiger T4B
  • Magnum 180
  • Magnum 190
  • Magnum 210
  • Magnum 225
  • Magnum 235
  • Magnum 245
  • Magnum 260
  • Magnum 290
  • Magnum 310
  • Magnum 340
  • Magnum 370
  • Magnum 380
  • Steiger Series

Check the cause

  1. Cycle the Shuttle Lever: The internal switches inside the FNRP pod can physically bind or stick. Vigorously cycling the shuttle lever can sometimes free up stuck switches as a temporary diagnostic measure.

  2. Check Fuses: Inspect the 30-amp FNR fuse (typically located in the fuse panel behind the seat) to ensure it is not blown.

  3. Inspect Wiring and Connectors: Check the wiring harness and the electrical connector at the base of the steering column for damaged wires, loose pins, or a short to a 12V power source.

  4. Check Battery Voltage: Verify that the tractor's batteries are fully charged. Dead or low batteries can cause the computer to hiccup and log erratic shifting faults.

Repair steps

  1. Prepare tractor for repair

Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery.

  2. Remove steering wheel

Remove the steering wheel to gain clear access to the steering column.

  3. Remove steering column covers

Take off the plastic steering column covers to expose the gear selector (FNRP) assembly.

  4. Disconnect wiring harness

Disconnect the multi-pin electrical wiring harness from the gear selector switch.

  5. Remove faulty assembly

Unbolt and remove the faulty gear selector assembly from the column.

  6. Install new assembly

Install the new gear selector switch assembly and secure it with the mounting hardware.

  7. Reconnect wiring harness

    Reconnect the electrical wiring harness.

  8. Reinstall covers and wheel

Reinstall the steering column covers and the steering wheel.

  9. Test shuttle shifting

Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and test the shuttle shifting (Forward, Neutral, Reverse, Park) to confirm the fault code is cleared and the tractor moves correctly.
