Case IH 2113 (741.03) - DEC – DEC (Drivetrain Electronic Controller): Clutch FWD Solenoid - LSD short to high voltage
Issue description
The drivetrain controller is detecting a voltage higher than expected on the ground-side (low side) circuit of the Forward (FWD) Clutch Solenoid. This typically means the wiring harness has shorted to a 12V power source, or the solenoid coil itself has suffered an internal short circuit.

Check the cause
Visually inspect the FWD solenoid circuit wiring harness. Look for rubbed bare wires, melted insulation, or a direct short to voltage, which is a highly common issue.
Perform a magnetism test: With the key switch ON and the FWD switch OFF, place a small screwdriver or piece of iron against the FWD solenoid. If it is magnetized, there is an electrical short to power in the wiring or a fused relay.
Disconnect the solenoid and use a multimeter to check the Low Side Driver wire back to the DEC for continuity to battery positive (12V).
Measure the resistance across the solenoid coil pins. If the resistance is near zero ohms, the solenoid is internally shorted and must be replaced.
Repair steps
Park the tractor in a safe, clean location on level ground and apply the park brake.
Locate the FWD solenoid.
It is typically located on the bottom of the transmission housing, behind the FWD clutch bulge or directly on the bottom of the MFWD clutch housing.
Disconnect the electrical connector from the FWD solenoid.
If the wiring harness is melted or shorted, splice in a new connector pigtail and route it away from sharp edges or heat sources.
If replacing the solenoid: Remove the lock nut at the end of the solenoid stem and slide the electrical coil off the valve assembly.
If the mechanical valve cartridge also needs replacement, remove the retaining cap screws and the retaining plate, then pull the valve assembly from the housing.
Install the new solenoid valve/coil, tighten the lock nut, and reconnect the electrical harness.
Clear the fault codes from the DEC and test-drive the tractor to ensure the FWD engages and disengages properly without throwing the 741.03 code.
