Case IH 2115 (4216.17) - DEC – Transmission Control Unit (TCU) or main Tractor Controller Unit: Clutch REV Solenoid - LSD short to GND

The Low Side Driver (LSD) circuit for the Reverse (REV) Directional Clutch Solenoid has a short circuit to ground (GND), preventing the controller from properly modulating the reverse clutch.

   Verify if the fault is active by checking if the tractor faults out as soon as the clutch pedal is released or put into gear

   Inspect the transmission wiring harness leading to the Directional Clutch REV Solenoid for chafing, pinched wires, or melted insulation that could cause the low side circuit to touch the chassis

   Disconnect the REV Clutch Solenoid and use a digital multimeter (DVOM) to check the resistance of the solenoid coil itself to see if it has failed internally (shorted to its own housing)

   Check the wiring between the TCU and the solenoid connector for continuity to ground

   Inspect the TCU pins and the solenoid connector for corrosion, moisture, or damage

   Disconnect battery

   Disconnect the machine's battery power before servicing electrical components.

   Locate solenoid

   Locate the Directional Clutch REV Solenoid on the transmission control valve block.

   Repair or replace wiring harness

   If the diagnostic checks reveal a damaged wire in the harness, repair the wire or replace the affected harness section to eliminate the short to ground.

   Remove faulty solenoid

   If the short to ground is internal to the solenoid, remove the retaining nut/bolt and extract the faulty Directional Clutch REV Solenoid.

   Install new solenoid

   Install the new solenoid. According to OEM torque specifications for similar directional clutch solenoids, torque the retaining nut to 35 N·m (26 lb.-ft.).

   Reconnect wiring and battery

   Reconnect the wiring harness and restore battery power.

   Clear fault codes

   Clear the fault codes. Note: On some older Case IH models, codes could be cleared by holding the INCR and DECR keys on the display, but on many models (and depending on the ICU software version), active transmission faults can only be cleared using the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) laptop software.
