Case IH 2117 – Engine Controller / Engine ECU (ENG): Engine Coolant Level is low. Add coolant fluid

The system has detected that the coolant in the reservoir has dropped below the minimum safe operating threshold.

• MX Series (e.g., MX80C to MX170) tractors
• Puma Series tractors
• Axial-Flow Combines (e.g., 1640-1688, 2144-2188, 2344-2388, 8010, 8120, 9120)
• Steiger tractors

   Physically check the coolant level in the expansion tank or radiator to confirm if the fluid is actually low

   Inspect all coolant pipes, hoses, and the radiator for visible leaks

   Inspect the coolant level sensor and its wiring harness for moisture, aging connectors, or a missing jumper plug

   Verify the 5-volt sensor network and CAN communication, as low system voltage or interruptions can trigger false sensor faults

   Refill Coolant

   If the reservoir is low, refill the system with OEM-matched coolant fluid to the proper level.

   Address Leaks

   If leaks were found during the inspection, repair or replace the damaged hoses or pipes.

   Test the Sensor

   If the fluid level is correct but the code persists, test the coolant level sensor and its connector. Clean the connector housing to ensure there is no moisture or dirt buildup.

   Replace the Sensor

   If the sensor is faulty or the internal float/contacts have failed, replace the coolant level sensor.

   Clear Codes

   Cycle the machine's power and clear the fault codes from the Engine ECU to confirm the repair.
