Case IH 2124 (517799.13) - DEC – DEC: Flywheel Torque Sensor not calibrated / Flywheel speed sensor not calibrated
Issue description
The flywheel torque/speed sensor is used to measure transmission input torque and engine speed. The '.13' FMI specifically indicates an out-of-calibration condition. This code triggers if the module loses the calibration value, if the calibration procedure failed, or if a new sensor was installed but not yet calibrated.
Applies to these machines
7 machines- MAXXUM T4E
- VESTRUM CVX
- Puma Series (140, 150, 165, 170, 185, 200, 215, 220, 230, 240)
- Magnum Series (180 through 380)
- Maxxum Series
- Optum Series
- Steiger Series
Check the cause
Check for accompanying codes such as U56 (open circuit) or U57 (short to ground) which indicate a wiring issue rather than just calibration
Visually inspect the wiring harness and the electrical connector at the flywheel speed sensor for corrosion, moisture, or physical damage
Attempt to run the transmission/damper torque calibration procedure using the tractor's diagnostic interface before assuming the sensor is dead
Repair steps
Prep the Machine
Turn off the engine, ensure the parking brake is engaged, and disconnect the battery's positive terminal.
Gain Access
Remove the starter motor heat shield, the starter motor cover, and potentially disconnect the heater return hose or brake pipes to gain clear access to the sensor located on the engine block reading the flywheel.
Remove the Sensor
Disconnect the 2-wire electrical connector from the flywheel speed sensor. Unbolt and remove the old sensor.
Install the New Sensor
Seat the new sensor, secure the mounting hardware, and reconnect the electrical harness. Reinstall the starter heat shields and any hoses/pipes removed during access.
Perform Calibration
Connect a service tool (or use the onboard AFS Pro display if supported) to run the Torque Calibration Procedure so the DEC can learn the new sensor's baseline values. The fault code will not clear simply by plugging in a new sensor.
