Case IH 2124 – Transmission Control Module: Flywheel torque sensor fitted in error or not calibrated
Issue description
For 24x24 transmissions, the system detects a flywheel torque/speed sensor that should not be present. For 16x16 transmissions, the sensor is correctly fitted but lacks the required calibration data.

Check the cause
Verify Transmission Type: Determine if the tractor is equipped with a 16x16 or a 24x24 transmission to identify the correct diagnostic path.
Check Controller Configuration (24x24 cause): Verify the Transmission Control Module's software configuration. Ensure it is not incorrectly programmed for a 16x16 transmission and check if a sensor was physically plugged into the harness that shouldn't be there.
Check Calibration Status (16x16 cause): Check if the battery was recently disconnected, the ECU was flashed, or the sensor was replaced, as this wipes the calibration memory.
Inspect Wiring: Check the wiring harness and connector to the flywheel speed/torque sensor for shorts or open circuits.
Repair steps
Warm up tractor
For 16x16 Transmissions (Calibration Error): Warm the tractor up to standard operating temperature. Calibration cannot be performed if the transmission fluid is cold.
Enter calibration menu
For 16x16 Transmissions: Enter the tractor's H8 calibration menu (Transmission Calibration) via the cab display.
Perform calibration
For 16x16 Transmissions: Perform the transmission and flywheel torque sensor calibration procedure. The default calibration value for the PTO/flywheel torque sensor is typically set to 3999 during the H8 procedure.
Correct physical faults
For 16x16 Transmissions: If the code 2124 displays during the calibration process, the fault condition (e.g., a wiring issue or a bad sensor) must be physically corrected before the adjustment will save.
Access configuration menu
For 24x24 Transmissions (Fitted in Error): Access the transmission sub-system configuration menu.
Correct configuration settings
For 24x24 Transmissions: Correct the controller's configuration settings to match the 24x24 transmission.
Disconnect sensor
For 24x24 Transmissions: If the configuration is correct but the code persists, locate the flywheel torque sensor on the engine/transmission bell housing and physically disconnect it, as it is not supported by the 24x24 logic.
Clear codes and test
For 24x24 Transmissions: Clear the fault codes and test the tractor by shifting the shuttle lever to forward and releasing the clutch pedal to ensure no error codes return.
