Case IH 2132 (5961.03) - DEC – Transmission Control Unit (TCU): Even Shaft Speed - short to high voltage or open circuit

Issue description

Electrical circuit failure related to the Even Shaft Speed Sensor. The system has detected that the sensor's circuit is either completely broken (open circuit) or is shorting to a high voltage source (such as a 5V reference or 12V battery power).

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the Even Shaft Speed Sensor pigtail and main wiring harness for chafing, rodent damage, or melted insulation.

  2. Disconnect the sensor and check the connector pins for corrosion, moisture, or pushed-back terminals.

  3. Check continuity of the signal and ground wires from the sensor connector back to the TCU harness to test for an open circuit.

  4. With the key ON (engine off), probe the signal wire to ensure it is not shorted to a high voltage source (5V or 12V).

  5. Test the internal resistance of the sensor; an infinite reading indicates an internal open circuit and a failed sensor.

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

    Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.

  2. Locate the Sensor

    Access the side/top of the main transmission housing where the speed sensors are mounted (ensure you are targeting the Even shaft sensor).

  3. Removal

    Disconnect the electrical bayonet connector from the sensor. Remove the retaining bolt holding the sensor to the transmission case.

  4. Extraction & Inspection

    Carefully pull the sensor straight out. Inspect the magnetic tip of the old sensor for heavy metal shavings, which can indicate internal transmission wear.

  5. Installation

    Lubricate the O-ring on the new sensor with clean transmission fluid. Insert the new sensor into the port and torque the retaining bolt to OEM specifications.

  6. Reconnection

    Reconnect the wiring harness, ensuring the weather-tight seal clicks into place.

  7. Calibration/Clearing

    Reconnect the battery. Use the tractor's Universal Display or the EST (Electronic Service Tool) to clear the stored fault code.

  8. Test Drive

    Operate the tractor, ensuring it shifts smoothly through the even-numbered gears without torque interruption or limp-mode engagement.
