2149 (519167.04) - DEC

Case IH 2149 (519167.04) - DEC – Transmission Control Unit (TCU): Reverse Clutch Pressure Sensor Circuit Malfunction

Issue description

The control module is receiving a signal voltage that is below the minimum acceptable threshold (open circuit or short circuit to GND) from the Reverse Clutch Pressure Sensor, which typically causes the transmission controller to disable the reverse clutch.

Applies to these machines

  • MAXXUM T4E
  • Magnum
  • Puma
  • Maxxum

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the transmission valve block area for obvious physical damage or transmission oil leakages.

  2. Check the reverse clutch pressure sensor connector to ensure it is fully plugged in, undamaged, and pins are secure.

  3. Perform a circuit test between the sensor connector and the TCU using a multimeter to check for continuity (open circuit) and continuity to ground (short to GND).

  4. Verify that the sensor supply voltage from the TCU is within the normal operating range.

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, engage the parking brake, and relieve any residual hydraulic pressure.

  2. Locate the Sensor

Identify the Reverse Clutch Pressure Sensor on the transmission control valve block.

  3. Disconnect

Carefully unplug the electrical harness connector from the sensor. Inspect the harness side for corrosion or pushed-out pins. Repair the connector if necessary.

  4. Remove the Sensor

If the wiring tests pass, the sensor itself has failed internally. Unscrew the defective pressure sensor from the transmission port. Have a rag ready to catch any residual transmission fluid.

  5. Install the New Sensor

Thread the new OEM pressure sensor into the port and tighten it to the manufacturer's specified torque.

  6. Reconnect

Plug the electrical connector back into the new sensor, ensuring the locking tab clicks into place.

  7. Clear and Test

Turn the key on, clear the fault codes from the TCU using a diagnostic tool, and perform an operational check. Shift the directional reverser lever to neutral, then to forward, and back to reverse to ensure the code does not return and reverse engagement is restored.

Parts you might need
