Case IH 2153 (519169.04) - DEC – DEC (Driveline Electronic Controller): Odd Clutch Pressure Sensor - open circuit or short circuit to GND
Issue description
The transmission controller is detecting that the signal voltage from the Odd Clutch Pressure Sensor is below the normal operating range. This indicates either a short to ground or an open circuit in the sensor itself, the wiring harness, or the connector. This sensor monitors the hydraulic pressure applied to the "odd" clutch pack (which engages gears 1, 3, 5, etc.) in the powershift transmission.

Check the cause
Visual Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness and connector at the Odd Clutch Pressure Sensor for physical damage, rubbed-through insulation, corrosion, or loose/pushed-back pins.
Voltage Check: Disconnect the sensor and use a multimeter to verify that the DEC/TCU is sending the proper 5V reference signal and sensor ground to the connector.
Continuity/Short Check: Check the signal wire for continuity back to the transmission controller and ensure it is not shorted to the chassis ground.
Sensor Swap Test: If the wiring checks out, swap the Odd Clutch Pressure Sensor with the Even Clutch Pressure Sensor (if they are identical parts on your valve block). If the fault code changes to the Even Clutch Pressure Sensor circuit, the sensor itself has failed internally. If the code remains 2153, the issue is in the wiring harness or the controller.
Repair steps
Park and secure tractor
Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine.
Disconnect battery
Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts during repair.
Locate sensor
Locate the Odd Clutch Pressure Sensor on the transmission control valve block (typically located on the side or top of the transmission housing).
Disconnect connector
Disconnect the electrical connector from the sensor.
Clean area
Thoroughly clean the area around the sensor base to prevent dirt or debris from entering the transmission hydraulic system.
Remove faulty sensor
Unscrew and remove the faulty pressure sensor. Have a rag ready, as a small amount of hydraulic fluid may leak.
Install new sensor
Install the new sensor. Ensure the O-ring is properly seated and lightly lubricated with clean transmission fluid. Tighten to the manufacturer's specified torque.
Reconnect connector
Reconnect the electrical connector, ensuring it clicks securely into place.
Reconnect battery
Reconnect the battery.
Clear fault codes
Start the tractor and use the in-cab display or a diagnostic service tool to clear the fault codes.
Perform calibration
Perform a transmission clutch calibration (specifically the "Odd Clutch calibration" via the tractor's display menu) to ensure the controller learns the new sensor's milliamp/pressure characteristics.
