Case IH 2154 – TCU (Transmission Control Unit): Transmission lubrication pressure implausible
Issue description
The system detects that the transmission lube pressure is greater than 150 kPa (22 psi) while the engine speed is less than 50 RPM for a period of more than 5 seconds. This indicates an electrical fault, such as a sensor stuck closed/high or a short-to-voltage in the sensor wiring harness, because mechanical pressure is impossible with the engine off.

Check the cause
Verify Actual Pressure: Hook up an analog pressure gauge to the transmission test port to confirm actual mechanical pressure. With the engine off, it should read 0 psi.
Inspect the Wiring Harness: Check the wiring harness leading to the transmission lube pressure sensor. Look for rubbed wires, chewed insulation, or a short-to-power that could be feeding false voltage to the TCU.
Check the Connector: Disconnect the sensor and inspect the pins for moisture, corrosion, or dirt, which can bridge the connections and cause false readings.
Sensor Drop Test: With the key on and engine off, monitor the live pressure data on the cab display. Disconnect the sensor. If the pressure reading drops to zero, the sensor itself has failed internally and is stuck high. If the reading remains at >22 psi, the wiring harness is shorted.
Repair steps
Locate the Sensor
Find the transmission oil pressure sensor on the transmission case. On many models, it is located on the left side valve body between the fuel tank and transmission, or behind a small access panel.
Clean the Area
Thoroughly clean the area around the sensor to prevent dirt and debris from falling into the transmission hydraulic circuit.
Disconnect Wiring
Unplug the factory wiring harness from the sensor.
Remove the Sensor
Unscrew the old sensor from the transmission housing. Have a rag or catch pan ready, as a small amount of residual transmission fluid may leak out.
Install the New Sensor
Apply a dab of hydraulic-safe thread sealant to the threads of the new sensor (if it does not come pre-applied). Thread it into the port and tighten to OEM specifications.
Reconnect and Test
Plug the wiring harness back in. Start the tractor, allow the oil to warm up, and verify that the transmission lube pressure reads correctly on the display and the fault code clears.
