2155

Case IH 2155 – Transmission Control Unit (TCU): Transmission lube pressure is critically low

Issue description

The system monitors the transmission lubrication circuit to ensure internal components receive adequate oil flow to prevent catastrophic friction damage. The code is triggered when the engine is running at a sufficient speed (greater than 800 RPM) to drive the hydraulic/transmission pumps, but the lube pressure drops below the minimum safe operating threshold for a continuous period of more than 5 seconds. This can be caused by a genuine loss of hydraulic pressure (low fluid, clogged filter, stuck regulator valve, pinched hose) or an electrical fault (a failing pressure sensor or damaged wiring harness sending a false low reading).

Applies to these machines

  • Steiger T4B
  • Steiger and Quadtrac series
  • Magnum series (including MX and TG series)
  • Puma series (CVX and PowerShift platforms)
  • Maxxum and MXU series
  • Farmall Pro series

Check the cause

  1. Verify the transmission/hydraulic fluid level using the dipstick or sight glass, as low fluid is a primary cause of pressure drop.

  2. Visually inspect for pinched, restricted, or leaking hoses between the transmission oil cooler and the transmission housing.

  3. Inspect the wiring harness and the connector at the transmission lube pressure sensor for chafed wires, corrosion, or loose pins that could cause a voltage drop or short circuit.

  4. Connect a calibrated mechanical pressure gauge to the transmission lube pressure test port and run the engine above 800 RPM to isolate a mechanical pressure loss from an electrical sensor failure.

  5. If mechanical pressure is genuinely low, check the transmission oil filter for severe restriction and inspect the transmission pressure regulator valve or bypass valve to see if it is stuck open due to debris or a broken spring.

Repair steps

  1. Park and secure machine

Park the machine on a level surface, engage the parking brake, lower all implements, and turn off the engine.

  2. Turn off power

Turn the master electric switch to the "OFF" position.

  3. Replace sensor (if electrical fault)

Locate the transmission lube pressure sensor on the transmission housing or valve block. Disconnect the electrical harness. Unthread the faulty sensor. Have a catch pan ready to collect any residual fluid. Install the new OEM pressure sensor with a new O-ring/seal and tighten to the specified torque. Reconnect the electrical harness securely.

  4. Service hydraulics (if mechanical fault)

Drain the transmission fluid (if contaminated) or prepare to lose some fluid during filter replacement. Replace the transmission oil filter(s). Locate the transmission lube pressure regulator valve assembly. Remove the valve plug, spring, and spool. Clean the bore and inspect the spring for breakage. Replace the valve components if scored or damaged, then reassemble. Top up the transmission with the correct OEM hydraulic fluid (e.g., Case IH Akcela Hy-Tran).

  5. Restore power and clear code

Turn the master electric switch to the "ON" position. Use the cab monitor (e.g., AFS Pro display) or a diagnostic service tool to clear the fault code.

  6. Verify repair

Start the engine, elevate the RPM above 800 for at least 10 seconds, and verify that the transmission warning light remains off and the code does not return.
