Case IH 2156 – Transmission Control Unit (TCU): Transmission lube pressure transducer circuit is open

The Transmission Control Unit (TCU) detects that the signal voltage from the transmission lube pressure sensor has dropped below the 0.5 V minimum threshold for more than 1 second. This typically points to a disconnected sensor, a severed wire in the harness, or a complete internal failure of the transducer itself.

   Check transmission fluid level and condition to rule out erratic readings.

   Inspect the main wiring harness and the sealed multi-pin weather-pack connector at the sensor for moisture, corrosion, backed-out pins, or physical damage.

   Use a multimeter to verify the 5V DC (±10%) regulated reference supply voltage is reaching the sensor connector.

   Connect a manual low-pressure gauge and flowmeter to the transmission test ports to verify actual lube pressure while shifting through gears.

   Locate the Sensor

   Locate the transmission lube pressure sensor on the transmission case. On many models (like the Maxxum and Magnum), this requires removing a small access panel on the side of the tractor to reach the valve body/transmission case.

   Disconnect

   Unplug the sealed electrical connector from the sensor.

   Remove

   Carefully unscrew the old transducer from the transmission housing. Have a rag ready, as a small amount of hydraulic fluid may weep from the port.

   Prepare the New Sensor

   Apply a dab of hydraulic-safe thread sealant to the threads of the new sensor (if it does not come with pre-applied sealant or an O-ring boss).

   Install

   Thread the new sensor into the port and tighten to OEM specifications.

   Reconnect & Clear

   Plug the wiring harness back in, ensuring the weather-pack seal clicks into place. Turn the key on, use the tractor's diagnostic display to clear the TCU fault codes, and start the machine to verify the code does not return and pressure reads normally.
