Case IH 2157 (519171.04) - DEC – Transmission Control Unit (TCU): Synchro 5-7 Position Sensor - open circuit or short circuit to GND

Issue description

The signal wire from the Synchro 5-7 Position Sensor is either broken, disconnected (open circuit), or touching a ground source (short circuit to ground). This electrical failure prevents the control module from reading the position of the 5th and 7th gear synchronizer.

Applies to these machines

  • MAXXUM T4E

Check the cause

  1. Clear the fault codes from the ECU to see if the code is active or stored.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the Synchro 5-7 Position Sensor for chafing, pinched wires, or disconnected plugs.

  3. Test the sensor circuit for continuity and ensure there is no continuity to ground on the signal wire.
