Case IH 2167 – ZDC: Flash EEPROM - Checksum at Initialization Inconsistent

Issue description

Indicates an internal memory failure within the control module. When the module powers on (initialization), it calculates a mathematical checksum of its non-volatile memory (Flash EEPROM) and compares it to the expected stored value. If the values are inconsistent, it means the software, calibration data, or the physical memory chip itself has become corrupted or damaged.

Check the cause

  1. Cycle power by turning the key off, waiting for the machine to fully power down, and turning it back on to see if the initialization error was a one-time glitch.

  2. Verify that the ZDC module is receiving clean, stable voltage, as voltage spikes or drops during startup can cause memory read errors.

  3. Check the specific ZDC fuses (e.g., Fuse F-101 and F-102 for the ZDC controller on Steiger models).

  4. Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to check if the ZDC module is communicating and to verify its current software version.

Repair steps

  1. Attempt a Reflash

    Using the Case IH EST, attempt to re-flash (reprogram) the ZDC module with the latest software calibration. This can sometimes overwrite corrupted EEPROM sectors.

  2. Replace the Module

    If the EST cannot communicate with the module, if the re-flash fails, or if the 2167 fault code returns immediately after a successful flash, the physical memory chip inside the ZDC is permanently damaged. The ZDC module must be replaced and programmed to the tractor.
