Case IH 2174 (518847.04) - DEC – VCM (Vehicle Control Module) / UCM (Universal Control Module): 12VF1 supply voltage low / VCM - Rail 12VF1 - Aux Retract Input Power Off
Issue description
The control module has detected that the 12-volt power supply on the specific '12VF1' internal rail has dropped below the acceptable operational threshold (failed low). This rail typically supplies power to specific auxiliary inputs (such as the Aux Retract input on loaders) or acts as a reference voltage supply for connected sensors and switches. The most common underlying cause is a blown fuse caused by a short to ground in the wiring harness.

Check the cause
Fuse Inspection: Locate the fuse panel and check the specific fuse assigned to the UCM/VCM +12VF1 circuit (frequently designated as fuse F-053, a 5A fuse).
Wiring Harness Test: If the fuse is blown, do not immediately replace it. Use a multimeter to check for a short to ground on the 12VF1 circuit wiring, specifically tracing the lines going to the auxiliary hydraulic retract switches or loader pilot interlocks.
System Voltage Check: Verify that the machine's base battery voltage and alternator output are within normal operating ranges (12.5V - 14.4V), as a general low voltage condition can sometimes trigger rail-specific faults.
Connector Inspection: Disconnect the VCM/UCM harness connectors and inspect for water ingress, bent pins, or corrosion that could cause high resistance or a short.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the ignition and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent accidental shorts during testing.
Locate the Short
If fuse F-053 (or the specific 12VF1 fuse for your model) is blown, trace the wiring harness from the VCM to the auxiliary retract inputs. Look for chafed wires rubbing against the chassis or loader arms.
Repair Wiring
Splice and heat-shrink any damaged sections of the wiring harness. If a sensor or switch on that 12V rail has internally shorted, replace the component.
Replace the Fuse
Install a new 5-amp fuse into the 12VF1 slot.
Check Relays
If the fuse is intact but the rail still has no power, test the Cab Power Relay or Implement Power Relay, which feed the VCM fuse block. Replace if the relay fails to click or lacks continuity across the load terminals.
Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery, turn the key to the ON position, and verify that the 518847.04 code changes from 'Active' to 'Inactive'. Clear the inactive codes via the Pro 700 / AFS Pro 1200 display.
