Case IH 2180 – ZDC Controller: ZDC - EEPROM - Checksum 5 Inconsistent (Error Memory ZDC)

The fault code indicates a memory corruption issue within the module's Electrically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory (EEPROM). A 'Checksum Inconsistent' error occurs during the module's power-up self-test when the calculated checksum of the stored data does not match the expected reference value, meaning the parameter data or operating software is corrupted, invalid, or the physical memory chip has failed.

   Verify battery and charging system voltage (low voltage during startup or shutdown can interrupt the module's write-process to the EEPROM, causing a checksum mismatch)

   Attempt to clear the error memory using the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) and cycle the key to see if the checksum error returns upon power-up

   Check if the module has lost its calibration or parameter dataset

   Connect the Case IH EST diagnostic laptop to the machine's diagnostic port.

   Attempt to re-flash the ZDC (CVT Controller) with the latest firmware and parameter dataset to repair the corrupted EEPROM memory.

   Perform the required CVT calibration procedures if the flash is successful.

   If the EST tool cannot communicate with the ZDC, or if the flash fails/the checksum error immediately returns, the physical EEPROM chip is defective.

   Disconnect the battery.

   Locate the ZDC controller on the tractor, disconnect its wiring harnesses, and remove the module.

   Install a replacement ZDC controller.
