Case IH 219 – Engine Control Module (ENG / ECM): Oil Level -- remote reservoir is too low. Add oil.
Issue description
Triggered when the Engine Control Module (ECM) detects a low fluid level in the make-up tank of the Centinel™ Advanced Engine Oil Management System. The ECM logs code 219 and disables the Centinel system to prevent the tank from running dry.
Applies to these machines
5 machines- MX Magnum
- STX Steiger
- Steiger tractors
- MX Magnum series tractors
- Axial-Flow combine harvesters
Check the cause
Verify Fluid Level: Physically check the fresh oil level in the Centinel make-up tank.
Inspect the Harness and Connector: Disconnect the Centinel harness from the make-up tank oil level sensor and inspect for loose connectors, damaged locking tabs, corroded/bent/pushed-back pins, moisture/dirt/debris, missing/damaged seals, and wire insulation damage.
Check for System Bypasses: If the machine does not have a remote oil tank installed, check the specific resistor/shorting plug (jumper) in the harness to ensure it hasn't fallen out or failed.
Repair steps
Top Off the Reservoir
Fill the Centinel make-up tank with the manufacturer-approved clean engine oil. Cycle the machine's key to see if the fault code clears.
Clean Connections
If the code persists, disconnect the sensor harness. Clean the electrical contacts with a dedicated contact cleaner and apply dielectric grease. Reconnect and re-test.
Drain the Tank
If the sensor is deemed faulty, place a catch pan under the make-up tank and drain the fresh oil to a level below the sensor port.
Remove the Sensor
Unplug the electrical harness and use a wrench to unthread the faulty fluid level sensor from the tank (typically a 1/4" NPT thread).
Install the New Sensor
Apply a thread sealant (if not pre-applied) to the new sensor. Thread it into the tank and tighten it securely.
Reassemble and Prime
Reconnect the 3-pin electrical harness. Refill the make-up tank with fresh engine oil.
Clear Codes
Turn the ignition on, verify that the Centinel system recognizes the fluid level, and clear the fault codes using your diagnostic tool or the cab monitor.
