Case IH 2190 – ZDC: CPU - Non Maskable Interrupt (NMI)
Issue description
Indicates a critical hardware interrupt that the CPU cannot ignore or disable. The internal processor has experienced a catastrophic hardware error, a memory parity error, or a watchdog timer timeout.
Applies to these machines
7 machines- Steiger T4B
- Steiger AFS Connect series
- Steiger 420
- Steiger 470
- Steiger 500
- Magnum CVX
- Puma CVX
Check the cause
Check ZDC Power Supply: Locate and test fuses F-101 (5A) for switched key power and F-102 (7.5A) for main ZDC controller power.
Inspect Wiring and Grounds: Check the wiring harness connectors at the ZDC module for corrosion, pushed-out pins, or poor ground connections that could cause a severe voltage spike or momentary loss of ground.
Check CAN Bus Integrity: Verify that the CAN lines between the ZDC and the VCM/UCM are intact.
Clear and Retest: Clear the fault code using the Electronic Service Tool (EST) and cycle the key. If the 2190 code immediately returns, the module's internal hardware has permanently failed.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the battery disconnect switch to prevent electrical arcing.
Access the ZDC
Locate the ZDC module (typically located in the cab electronics compartment or near the transmission valve body, depending on the specific tractor chassis).
Remove the Module
Disconnect the multi-pin harness connectors from the ZDC. Unbolt the module from its mounting bracket.
Install the New Module
Mount the replacement ZDC and securely reconnect the wiring harnesses.
Program and Calibrate
Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) laptop.
Flash the ECU
Flash the latest firmware to the ZDC so it can handshake with the VCM/UCM.
Perform CVT Calibration
Run the mandatory CVT calibration routines via the EST to teach the new controller the transmission clutch fill times and engagement points.
Parts you might need
(3)ZDC Controller (Zone Drive Controller / CVT Module)
Exact OEM part number varies heavily based on the tractor's specific chassis, model year, and PIN. Provide PIN to parts counter.
5 Amp ATO/ATC fuse
For F-101 replacement if blown
7.5 Amp ATO/ATC fuse
For F-102 replacement if blown
