Case IH 2195 – Engine Control Module (ECM): Auxiliary Equipment Sensor Input # 3 - Engine Protection Critical - Special Instructions

Issue description

The engine controller has received a signal from an OEM-installed auxiliary sensor or safety switch (such as an emergency stop button, safety interlock, or external fluid/temperature monitor) indicating a critical condition, which typically initiates an engine shutdown or a severe engine derate.

Check the cause

  1. Identify the Trigger: Determine which OEM-specific switch is wired to Auxiliary Input #3 on your specific model (e.g., emergency stop, safety interlock, or fire suppression trigger).

  2. Verify the Condition: Check if the switch was legitimately triggered by an actual event (e.g., accidental bump of emergency stop or safety door popped open).

  3. Inspect Wiring and Connectors: Trace the wiring harness from the ECM to the auxiliary switch for chafed wires, corrosion, or a short-to-ground.

  4. Test the Switch: Use a digital multimeter to test the continuity of the OEM switch to see if it is stuck in the open or closed position contrary to its normal operating state.

Repair steps

  1. Secure the Machine

    Turn off the equipment, engage the parking brake, and disconnect the battery to ensure safety during electrical testing.

  2. Reset the Trigger

    If the code was caused by a tripped emergency stop or safety interlock, physically reset the button or secure the interlock.

  3. Repair Wiring (If Applicable)

    If the diagnostic checks revealed a short or open circuit in the harness, splice in a new section of wire using heat-shrink connectors, or replace the damaged connector pigtail.

  4. Replace the Switch (If Faulty)

    Disconnect the wiring harness from the faulty auxiliary switch. Unbolt or unthread the switch from its mounting point. Install the new OEM switch and reconnect the harness.

  5. Clear the Code

    Reconnect the battery and turn the ignition to the ON position. Use a Case IH or Cummins-compatible diagnostic scan tool to clear the inactive fault code 2195 from the ECM memory.

  6. Test Operation

    Start the engine and verify that the code does not return and that the engine operates normally without entering a derate mode.
