Case IH 2196 – ACML (Armrest Control Module): ACML not configured

Issue description

The Armrest Control Module (ACML) has lost its software calibration, has not been initialized on the tractor's CAN bus network, or is missing the specific machine configuration files required to operate the armrest controls.

Applies to these machines

  • VESTRUM CVX
  • Maxxum
  • Maxxum 135 Multicontroller ActiveDrive 8
  • Puma
  • Magnum
  • Steiger

Check the cause

  1. Verify CAN Bus Communication: Ensure the ACML is communicating with the main vehicle controller and the AFS Pro display.

  2. Check Software Status: Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the machine's diagnostic port. Check if the ACML is recognized on the network and if its software version reads as blank, corrupted, or mismatched.

  3. Inspect Wiring: Check the main harness connector at the base of the armrest for loose pins, moisture, or damage that could cause intermittent voltage drops, leading to memory loss in the module.

Repair steps

  1. Connect Diagnostic Tool

Connect the Case IH EST (Electronic Service Tool) laptop to the tractor's diagnostic port.

  2. Module Configuration

Navigate to the programming/configuration menu and select the ACML.

  3. Flash/Reconfigure

Push the correct machine configuration file (software payload) to the ACML. You will need to select the exact options your tractor is equipped with (e.g., number of rear remotes, transmission type).

  4. Calibrate

Once the module is configured and successfully rebooted, perform the mandatory armrest calibrations (joystick center positions, throttle limits, etc.) as prompted by the EST or the AFS Pro display.

  5. Replace if Bricked

If the EST cannot communicate with the ACML, or if the configuration repeatedly fails to save, the internal memory of the ECU has likely failed. The ACML hardware must be replaced and the new module configured from scratch.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • ECU - Full GARU ACML (Electronic Control Unit)

    51457799

Dealer catalogs indicate this may be replaced by or supersede part number 92289172. Fits various Case IH Multicontroller tractors (such as the Maxxum 135 Stage V). The new module will arrive blank and must be configured by a dealer using the EST tool before it will function.
