Case IH 22 – Armrest Control Module / ICU (Instrument Cluster Unit) / Cab Controller: Check pto control switch circuit

This fault indicates an electrical anomaly in the Power Take-Off (PTO) control switch circuit, such as an open circuit, a short to ground, a short to power, or a switch that is leaking voltage across its internal contacts. The controller locks out the PTO to prevent engagement for safety reasons.

   Check the PTO fuse in the fuse panel to verify the circuit is intact

   Test the PTO switch for internal voltage leakage using a multimeter (e.g., leaking 5V to 7V to the no-voltage side)

   Inspect the wiring harness from the armrest to the PTO control solenoid for chafing, detached connectors, or broken wires

   Verify PTO speed sensors are clean and reading correctly to rule out mismatched speed data

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent shorting the Armrest Controller.

   Access the Switch

   Remove the retaining screws for the right-hand armrest console or side trim panel where the PTO switch is mounted. Carefully lift the panel to expose the underside wiring.

   Disconnect the Harness

   Unplug the electrical connector from the bottom of the PTO switch. Inspect the harness connector for melted plastic or corroded pins.

   Remove the Old Switch

   Depress the plastic retaining tabs on the sides of the switch body and push the switch upward and out of the console panel.

   Install the New Switch

   Push the new OEM PTO switch down into the console cutout until the retaining tabs click securely into place.

   Reassemble

   Reconnect the electrical harness to the switch, ensuring the locking tab engages. Reinstall the armrest console panel and secure the screws.

   Test

   Reconnect the battery. Turn the ignition on, clear any stored fault codes via the dash display or service tool, and test the PTO engagement.
