Case IH 2200 (517961.05) - DEC – Transmission Control Unit (TCU): Clutch ODD Solenoid - open circuit

The fault code indicates an open circuit (or short to ground) in the electrical circuit for the transmission's 'Odd' clutch solenoid. The control module is unable to detect electrical continuity through the solenoid coil or its wiring harness, resulting in a loss of odd gears, transmission slipping, or the tractor halting.

   Verify battery voltage and alternator output, as low system voltage can prevent clutch solenoids from receiving adequate power and trigger false faults.

   Trace the wiring harness from the Transmission Control Unit to the Odd Clutch Solenoid. Look for rubbed-through wire insulation, broken wires (open circuit), or corroded/loose connector pins.

   Unplug the solenoid and use a digital multimeter to measure the resistance across the solenoid coil pins. An 'OL' (Open Loop) or infinite resistance reading confirms the solenoid coil has failed internally.

   If the electrical circuit tests fine, attach a pressure gauge to the test port near the solenoid to verify if the correct clutch release/engagement pressure is being achieved when commanded on.

   Preparation

   Park the machine on a level surface, engage the parking brake, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.

   Access the Valve Block

   Locate the transmission control valve block on the side of the transmission housing where the clutch solenoids are mounted. Clean the area thoroughly to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.

   Remove the Faulty Solenoid

   Disconnect the electrical harness from the Odd Clutch Solenoid. Remove the retaining bolts or snap ring holding the solenoid in the valve body and carefully pull the solenoid out.

   Install the New Solenoid

   Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid with clean OEM transmission fluid. Insert the solenoid into the valve block and secure it with the retaining hardware.

   Reconnect and Reassemble

   Plug the electrical connector back into the solenoid. Reconnect the tractor's battery.

   Calibration

   Connect a diagnostic tool to clear the inactive fault codes. You must perform a transmission clutch calibration procedure to allow the controller to learn the new engagement pressures and fill times.
