Case IH 2201 (517961.04) - DEC – Transmission Control Unit (TCU / Trans) / Drivetrain Electronic Controller (DEC): Clutch Odd solenoid open circuit or short to ground

Issue description

This fault indicates that the controller has detected an electrical short to ground (or an open circuit) in the wiring or the internal coil of the Clutch ODD Solenoid. When this circuit shorts to ground, the transmission cannot properly shift into or maintain odd gears, often resulting in transmission slipping, limited gear availability, or a forced neutral state.

Check the cause

  1. Trace the wiring harness from the TCU to the transmission control valve block, looking for chafed insulation, melted wires, or pinch points against the transmission housing.

  2. Disconnect the Clutch ODD solenoid connector and inspect for moisture, hydraulic fluid intrusion, corrosion, or bent pins.

  3. Using a multimeter, measure the resistance across the pins of the Clutch ODD solenoid. A reading of near zero ohms indicates an internal short. Compare to the adjacent Clutch EVEN solenoid to verify baseline resistance.

  4. Inspect the pins at the Drivetrain Electronic Controller (TCU) to ensure no pins are burnt or damaged from the short circuit.
