Case IH 2202 (517961.15) - DEC – Trans (Transmission Controller Unit / TCU): Clutch ODD Solenoid - short to high voltage

Issue description

An electrical issue in the circuit controlling the odd-numbered gear clutches within the transmission. A 'short to high voltage' means the controller is detecting voltage levels outside the expected operating range, typically caused by the solenoid's wiring harness shorting to a +12V power source or a 5-Volt reference line, a failed solenoid coil, or an internal failure within the controller.

Applies to these machines

  • MAXXUM T4E
  • Case IH Magnum 235 - 340 (Series 4)

Check the cause

  1. Turn the disconnect switch and key start switch to the OFF position

  2. Disconnect the machine harness connector from the transmission controller and the Clutch Odd Solenoid

  3. Check the wiring harness for a short circuit to +12 Volts or a 5-Volt reference

  4. Inspect the circuit for an open circuit or short to ground

Repair steps

  1. Power down and disconnect battery

Power down the tractor and disconnect the battery.

  2. Locate solenoid

Locate the Clutch Odd Solenoid on the transmission valve body.

  3. Inspect wiring harness

Inspect the wiring harness and connectors for visible damage, corrosion, or pinched wires that could cause a short to high voltage.

  4. Repair or replace wiring

Repair or replace the damaged section of the wiring harness if a short is found.

  5. Replace solenoid

If the wiring tests intact, the Clutch Odd Solenoid itself has failed internally and must be replaced.

  6. Reconnect and power on

Reconnect all harnesses and power on the tractor.

  7. Clear codes

    Clear the active diagnostic codes.

  8. Calibrate transmission clutches

If the diagnostic process determines that the transmission controller itself has failed and a new controller is installed, code Trans 2024 ('none of the Transmission clutches are calibrated') will trigger. You must perform a full transmission clutch calibration before the tractor can be operated.
