Case IH 2203 (517961.17) - DEC – Hitch / EHR (Electronic Hitch Control) module (2203) / Trans (Transmission) controller (2342): Hitch position is above the upper limit (2203) / Clutch Odd solenoid open circuit or short to ground (2342)

Issue description

For Code 2203: The Hitch position is above the upper limit, triggering a 'DEGRADED 1' response where the hitch enable light illuminates and operates under default settings only. For Code 2342: Clutch Odd solenoid open circuit or short to ground.

Check the cause

  1. If diagnosing Hitch Error (Code 2203): Press and hold the hitch up/down switch in the momentary position or the hitch remote down switch until the hitch upper limit is reached.

  2. If diagnosing Hitch Error (Code 2203): Check the hitch position command (cab) potentiometer.

  3. If diagnosing Hitch Error (Code 2203): Check the hitch position command (cab) potentiometer circuit.

  4. If diagnosing Clutch ODD Solenoid (Code 2342): Check the wiring harness between the Transmission ECU and the Clutch ODD Solenoid for continuity and shorts to ground.

Repair steps

  1. Test circuit

    Test the hitch position command (cab) potentiometer circuit.

  2. Replace potentiometer

    Replace the bad hitch position command (cab) potentiometer if it fails the circuit checks.
