Case IH 2205 (517961.06) - DEC – Transmission Controller (Trans / TCU): Clutch ODD Solenoid - LSD short to HSD
Issue description
The fault indicates an electrical issue with the Clutch ODD Solenoid, specifically a Low Side Driver shorted to High Side Driver (LSD short to HSD).
Applies to these machines
6 machines- MAXXUM T4E
- Case IH Magnum 235 – 340 (Series 4)
- Case IH Maxxum Series
- Case IH Vestrum Series
- Case IH Magnum 7210
- Case IH Magnum 8910
Check the cause
Check the transmission wiring harness leading to the Clutch ODD solenoid for an open circuit, a short to ground, or a short between the Low Side Driver (LSD) and High Side Driver (HSD) wires.
Verify the 5-volt internal reference voltages at the transmission controller, as electrical shorts in the transmission system can pull down the reference voltage.
Check if the transmission controller has lost its calibration memory, which would leave the transmission clutches uncalibrated.
Repair steps
Locate the Clutch ODD Solenoid
Locate the Clutch ODD Solenoid on the transmission control valve block.
Test the wiring harness
Disconnect the solenoid and use a multimeter to test the wiring harness back to the Transmission Controller (TCU) for continuity and to ensure the LSD and HSD lines are not shorted together.
Test the solenoid internal resistance
Test the internal resistance of the Clutch ODD Solenoid itself. If the coil is internally shorted, the solenoid must be replaced.
Repair wiring or replace solenoid
Repair any damaged wiring in the harness or replace the faulty solenoid.
Perform transmission clutch calibration
After the electrical repair is complete, perform a transmission clutch calibration procedure using the tractor's diagnostic interface to ensure the TCU relearns the engagement points for the odd clutches.
