Case IH 2213 (6152.04) - DEC – Transmission Control Unit (TCU) / Tractonic ECU: Synchro 1 Solenoid - short to GND

The control circuit for the transmission's Synchronizer 1 solenoid valve has shorted to ground. This prevents the solenoid from actuating properly, likely inhibiting the transmission from shifting into the associated gear range.

   Verify battery voltage is sufficient. Dead or low batteries are known to cause phantom transmission and electronic parking brake lockup codes.

   Disconnect the Synchro 1 solenoid and measure the internal resistance. A healthy Synchro 1 solenoid valve (EV1/EV2) should measure 10 Ω ± 2.

   Check the wiring harness between the Transmission TCU and the Synchro 1 solenoid for chafing, broken cables, or poor contact at the connector that would cause a short to ground.

   Reinitialize the System

   If the machine recently suffered a dead battery, reinitialize the transmission/parking brake system. (For example: Hold both brake pedals, release the hand brake, turn the key to the run position, place the shift lever in neutral, and press the Neutral button on the shifter handle).

   Isolate the Short

   Disconnect the wiring harness at the Synchro 1 solenoid and at the TCU. Use a multimeter to check for continuity between the solenoid signal wire and the chassis ground.

   Repair Wiring

   If continuity to ground is found in the harness, locate the chafed wire and repair/splice it.

   Replace the Solenoid

   If the wiring harness is intact but the solenoid itself fails the 10 Ω resistance test (or shows continuity to its own casing), the solenoid has an internal short and must be replaced.
