Case IH 2221 – ZDC: Transmission Lubrication Oil Pressure Sensor Supply Voltage out of Range Low

The control module has detected the voltage signal from the Transmission Lubrication Oil Pressure Sensor has dropped below the acceptable minimum threshold (typically below 0.5V on a standard 5V reference circuit).

   Visually inspect the Transmission Lubrication Oil Pressure Sensor and wiring harness for chafing, rodent damage, or melting.

   Disconnect the sensor and inspect the connector for pushed-out pins, water intrusion, or green corrosion.

   Perform a voltage test (Key On, Engine Off) at the sensor connector to verify the presence of a 5V reference signal and a good ground. If missing, the issue is in the wiring or ZDC module.

   Check the signal wire for continuity back to the ZDC module and ensure it is not shorted to the chassis ground.

   If the wiring tests perfectly, the sensor has likely failed internally and is pulling the voltage down.

   Preparation

   Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, lower all implements, and turn off the engine. Relieve any residual hydraulic pressure.

   Locate the Sensor

   Access the transmission lubrication circuit block (location varies by model, often requiring the removal of a small access panel or right-hand cab step).

   Clean the Area

   Thoroughly clean the area around the sensor with brake cleaner to prevent dirt from entering the transmission hydraulic circuit.

   Removal

   Disconnect the electrical harness. Place a small catch pan underneath to catch residual oil. Use a deep socket or wrench to unscrew the faulty sensor.

   Installation

   Thread the new sensor into the port. (If the new sensor does not have pre-applied thread sealant, apply a small amount of hydraulic-safe liquid thread sealant—do not use Teflon tape). Torque to the OEM specification for your specific model.

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the electrical harness, ensuring the locking tab clicks into place.

   Testing

   Start the engine and check the sensor area for leaks. Use a diagnostic tool (such as the Case IH EST or Jaltest AGV) to clear the inactive fault code from the ZDC module. Verify that the transmission oil pressure reads correctly on the cab display.
