Case IH 2222 (6153.03) - DEC – DEC: Synchro 2 Solenoid - LSD short to high voltage

The controller is detecting voltage (typically battery power/12V) on the ground-side circuit during a state when it should not be present, indicating a short to power. This prevents the module from properly grounding and controlling the transmission synchronizer solenoid.

   Verify if the fault code is active or stored (active faults will immediately disable systems to protect the powertrain)

   With the key in the OFF position, disconnect the harness at the DEC module and the Synchro 2 Solenoid, and use a multimeter to check for voltage on the low-side driver pin (voltage indicates a short to high voltage in the harness)

   Test the solenoid coil resistance using Ohm's Law to determine if the internal coil is shorted out under load

   Check for continuity (≤ 0.5 ohms impedance) between the signal wire and the controller power to confirm the short to power

   Locate the Synchro 2 Solenoid on the transmission control valve body.

   Disconnect the electrical connector to the solenoid and inspect the pins for corrosion, melting, or damage.

   Perform the multimeter voltage and continuity checks on the wiring harness to isolate whether the short is in the tractor's wiring harness or internal to the solenoid coil.

   If the wiring harness is shorted to a power wire, trace the harness back to the DEC module, locate the chafed/damaged wire, and repair it.

   If the harness tests good, the solenoid coil itself is internally shorted. Remove the retaining nut/clip holding the solenoid coil to the valve spool.

   Old coils can become stuck and may crumble or require prying to remove; be careful not to bend the spool.

   Install the new solenoid coil over the spool and secure it.

   Reconnect the electrical harness.

   Clear the fault codes using a diagnostic tool or by performing a cycle test to confirm the permanent fault is resolved.
