Case IH 2229 – ZDC Controller: ZDC - CAN message DispVehicleConfig2 timeout
Issue description
The control module is not receiving the 'DispVehicleConfig2' (Display Vehicle Configuration 2) message over the Controller Area Network (CAN) bus within the expected timeframe. This indicates the display unit is failing to broadcast its configuration data to the receiving controller, or the wiring between them is compromised.

Check the cause
Check ZDC Power Supply (Fuses): Inspect Fuse F-101 (5 A) for ZDC Controller switched power and Fuse 102 (7.5 A) for ZDC Controller main power
Inspect CAN Bus Wiring: Check the cables and plugs connecting the cab display to the ZDC controller for disconnected plugs, chafed wires, or corrosion
Verify System Voltage: Check for low CAN bus voltage or a loose battery connector, which can trigger network timeouts
Repair steps
Power Cycle & Clear
Turn off the tractor, ensure the battery disconnect is secure, and restart the machine to see if the timeout was a momentary software glitch.
Fuse Replacement
If fuse F-101 (5A) or 102 (7.5A) is blown, inspect the ZDC power circuit for a short to ground, repair the wire, and replace the fuse.
Harness Repair
If the fuses are intact, use a multimeter to test the CAN High and CAN Low lines between the display and the ZDC. Repair any open circuits or shorts found in the harness.
Software/Firmware Update
If the physical wiring is intact and the display is powering on but still timing out, reload the configuration files or update the display firmware to restore the 'DispVehicleConfig2' broadcast.
