Case IH 2230 (6157.05) - DEC – DEC: Synchro 6 Solenoid - open circuit

The control module has detected that the electrical circuit operating the Synchro 6 transmission solenoid is incomplete. An "open circuit" typically occurs when there is a broken wire, a disconnected wiring harness plug, pushed-back connector pins, or when the internal copper windings of the solenoid coil itself have broken and have infinite resistance.

   Visually inspect the wiring harness running from the DEC (transmission controller) to the Synchro 6 solenoid for physical damage, severed wires, or rodent damage.

   Disconnect the harness at the solenoid and at the DEC module. Ensure no pins are pushed back, corroded, or loose inside the connectors.

   Using a multimeter, measure the resistance (Ohms) across the two pins of the Synchro 6 solenoid coil. If the multimeter reads 'OL' (infinite resistance) or excessively high resistance, the coil is internally broken.

   If the solenoid tests good, check the continuity of the signal and ground wires from the DEC module connector to the solenoid connector to find the break in the harness.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery or turn off the master disconnect switch to prevent electrical spikes.

   Access the Solenoid

   Locate the Synchro 6 solenoid on the transmission valve body.

   Disconnect Wiring

   Unplug the electrical connector from the solenoid.

   Remove the Coil

   If the diagnostic tests proved the coil is at fault, remove the retaining nut or snap ring holding the solenoid coil to the valve stem.

   Install New Coil

   Slide the defective coil off the cartridge/valve stem and slide the new OEM coil into place. Secure it with the retaining nut/clip.

   Repair Wiring (If Applicable)

   If the diagnostic tests pointed to the harness instead of the coil, splice and repair the broken wire using weather-sealed heat-shrink connectors, or replace the damaged harness section.

   Reassemble and Clear Codes

   Reconnect the electrical plug. Restore battery power, turn the key on, and use the tractor's diagnostic display (e.g., AFS Pro monitor) to clear the DEC fault codes. Test operate the transmission to ensure the code does not return.
