Case IH 2232 (6157.15) - DEC – Transmission Control Unit (TCU) or Drivetrain/Vehicle Controller: Synchro 6 Solenoid - short to high voltage

The control module is detecting a voltage on the circuit for the #6 Synchronizer (Synchro) Solenoid that is higher than the expected normal operating range. This typically means the signal wire for the solenoid has chafed and is touching a power source, or there is an internal short within the solenoid coil itself.

   Verify the active error on the tractor's display monitor and note any transmission symptoms like skipping a range or harsh shifting.

   Inspect the transmission wiring harness leading to the transmission valve block for chafed wires, melted insulation, or pinch points.

   Disconnect the harness at the Synchro 6 solenoid and check for water ingress, corrosion, or bent pins.

   With the key ON (engine off), measure the voltage at the harness connector to check for high voltage on the ground/control circuit.

   Measure the resistance across the solenoid coil itself (a healthy coil typically reads around 6.8 Ohms). An out-of-spec reading or dead short indicates a faulty coil.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical spikes.

   Locate the Solenoid

   Locate the transmission control valve block (usually on the side of the transmission housing). Identify the #6 Synchro solenoid.

   Remove the Solenoid Coil

   Disconnect the 2-pin plug from the solenoid. Remove the retaining nut or bolt holding the solenoid coil to the valve stem.

   Replace the Coil

   Slide the old coil off the valve cartridge. Slide the new OEM replacement coil onto the stem and secure it with the retaining fastener. (If the entire valve cartridge is damaged, unthread the cartridge from the block and replace the whole assembly, ensuring O-rings are lubricated with clean transmission fluid).

   Reassemble and Clear Codes

   Reconnect the 2-pin wiring harness. Reconnect the battery. Turn the key ON and use the tractor's diagnostic menu to clear the stored fault codes. Test drive to ensure the transmission shifts correctly through all ranges.
