2234 (6157.03) - DEC

Case IH 2234 (6157.03) - DEC – DEC (Drivetrain Electronic Control): Synchro 6 Solenoid - LSD short to high voltage

Issue description

An electrical circuit failure where the network detects values outside expected limits (a short circuit), preventing the controller from properly operating the solenoid due to a voltage irregularity.

Applies to these machines

  • MAXXUM T4E
  • Maxxum
  • Puma
  • Magnum
  • Optum
  • Steiger

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the end of the solenoid harness connector for oil, dirt, or grime that could negatively affect the connection.

  2. Perform a resistance test using a digital multimeter set to Ohms (Ω) on the two prongs inside the solenoid valve. A good solenoid should read between 12 to 25 ohms. No reading or an extremely high reading indicates a bad solenoid.

  3. Perform a bench/voltage test by applying battery voltage (approximately 12V) directly to the solenoid's prongs to see if it energizes (you should hear/see the internal valve move). Be careful not to cross the wires.

Repair steps

  1. Locate solenoid

Locate the specific Synchro 6 solenoid on the transmission valve body.

  2. Disconnect wiring

Disconnect the wiring harness connector from the solenoid.

  3. Remove fastener

Remove the single fastener holding the solenoid in place.

  4. Remove solenoid

Pull the solenoid out of the transmission body. Note: The solenoid is sealed with O-rings (typically three) to prevent transmission fluid leakage, so it may be a tight fit.

  5. Install new solenoid

Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid and press it into the transmission body.

  6. Reassemble components

Reinstall the fastener and reconnect the wiring harness.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Transmission Shift Solenoid / Synchro Solenoid Valve

Ensure the replacement solenoid comes with the necessary O-rings (usually three) to prevent fluid leakage from the transmission body.
