Case IH 2247 (519182.06) - DEC – DEC: Synchro 8 Solenoid - LSD short to HSD
Issue description
There is a short circuit between the Low Side Driver (LSD) and the High Side Driver (HSD) on the circuit that controls the Synchro 8 transmission solenoid.
Applies to these machines
8 machines- MAXXUM T4E
- Maxxum series
- Maxxum 140 Pro
- Puma series
- CX series
- MC series
- MTX series
- MX series
Check the cause
Verify Symptoms: Check if the tractor is failing to drive in specific gear ranges (e.g., gears 5-8 and 13-16).
Perform 'Swapnostics': Swap the suspect Synchro 8 solenoid with a known good solenoid on the valve block (such as the 1-4 synchro solenoid). If the fault code and shifting issue follow the solenoid, the solenoid is internally shorted. If the issue remains with the original circuit, the wiring harness or the DEC module is at fault.
Visual Inspection: Remove the transmission top plate and run the tractor to visually verify if the shift forks are attempting to move when commanded.
Calibration Check: Attempt a transmission calibration. If the solenoid or circuit is faulty, the calibration will usually fail and throw a signal error or an 'out of tolerance' message.
Repair steps
Access the Valve Block
Locate and access the transmission control valve group / top plate where the synchro solenoids are housed.
Disconnect Wiring
Carefully disconnect the wiring harness connector from the faulty Synchro 8 solenoid.
Remove the Solenoid
Remove the retaining hardware and extract the faulty solenoid from the valve block.
Install the New Part
Insert the replacement solenoid, secure it with the retaining hardware, and reconnect the wiring harness.
Calibrate the Transmission
After replacing transmission components, perform a clutch and synchronizer calibration procedure. Ensure the transmission oil temperature is above 50°C (122°F) to complete successfully.
