Case IH 2250 (519183.15) - DEC – DEC: Synchro S Solenoid
Issue description
A "short to high voltage" fault indicates that the electronic control module has detected a voltage on the Synchro S Solenoid circuit that is higher than the expected operating range. In Case IH systems, this typically means the circuit has shorted directly to a +12V power supply. This condition is usually the result of wire harness damage (chafing against a power wire), a failed solenoid coil, or an internal short within the controller.

Check the cause
Verify the Concern: Get a clear description of the shifting/drivetrain issue from the operator and, if possible, operate the vehicle to confirm the problem.
Check the Monitor: Use the Diag screens on the Universal Display Plus or AFS Pro 700 monitor to verify if the fault is currently active or stored.
Check for Accompanying Codes: Key ON, Engine OFF. Check for other stored DTC codes. Always diagnose and repair any existing codes starting with the lowest numerical code first.
Visual Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness leading to the transmission valve body for damage, as short to high voltage errors are most frequently caused by harness damage.
Temperature Check: When checking solenoid/relay resistance values, ensure the component is at a reasonable temperature (between +20 and +100 degrees F) to avoid false readings.
Repair steps
Disconnect power
Turn the key OFF and disconnect the battery ground to prevent further electrical damage.
Isolate the circuit
Disconnect the electrical connector at the Synchro S Solenoid.
Test the harness
Reconnect the battery and turn the Key ON. Use a multimeter to test the signal wire at the harness connector. If it reads +12V when it shouldn't, the wiring harness is shorted to power and must be traced and repaired.
Test the solenoid
Measure the resistance across the pins of the Synchro S Solenoid. If the resistance is out of specification (or shows a dead short), the solenoid has failed internally.
Replace the solenoid
If the solenoid is faulty, remove the retaining bolts/clips holding it in the transmission valve body. Install the new Synchro S Solenoid and torque the mounting hardware to OEM specifications (generic Case IH drivetrain solenoids are often torqued to 40-55Nm, but verify with your specific model's manual).
Clear codes and test
Reconnect the harness, clear the fault codes via the cab display, and test operate the machine to ensure the code does not return.
