2258 (519184.03) - DEC

Case IH 2258 (519184.03) - DEC – DEC: Synchro M Solenoid - LSD short to high voltage

Issue description

The fault code indicates an electrical failure on the circuit controlling the Synchro M Solenoid, specifically a Low Side Driver (LSD) short to high voltage. This occurs when the voltage remains high during the driver's 'ON' state, typically indicating ≤ 0.5 ohms of impedance between the signal wire and the controller's power source.

Applies to these machines

  • MAXXUM T4E
  • Farmall
  • Puma
  • Optum
  • Maxxum

Check the cause

  1. Verify if the fault is currently present and active using a diagnostic tool such as the Case IH Electronic Service Tool E.A.Sy.

  2. Disconnect the ECU/module connector and check for voltage on the ground circuit at the specific pin for the Synchro M Solenoid low side driver (there should be no voltage present).

  3. If voltage is present on the low side pin while disconnected, identify the short to a high voltage source in the solenoid's circuit.

  4. Test the wiring harness to see if there is 0.5 ohms or less of impedance between the solenoid signal wire and a power source.

Repair steps

  1. Turn the key to the OFF position.

Ensure the machine is powered down before inspecting the wiring.

  2. Trace the wiring harness between the DEC module and the Synchro M Solenoid to locate the shorted conductor.

Visually and physically inspect the harness for damage or shorts.

  3. If a short to power is found in the wiring, repair or replace the damaged section of the transmission wiring harness.

    Address any identified wiring faults.

  4. If the wiring harness tests perfectly (no short to power), the fault may be an internal failure within the Synchro M Solenoid itself, requiring the solenoid to be replaced.

Replace the solenoid if the wiring is confirmed to be intact.
