Case IH 2259-12 - UCM – UCM: Rear Pilot Head #8 - Spool not in neutral at activation

Indicates an issue with Rear Pilot Head #8 (the electronic actuator on the #8 Electro-Hydraulic Remote [EHR] valve). The UCM detected that the valve spool was out of position or the pilot head's internal sensor/controller has failed and is reporting an erroneous position upon startup.

   Check if an EHR/UCM software update is available via the Electronic Service Tool (EST) to rule out software glitches

   Disconnect the remote valve connector and check CAN bus wiring resistance between CAN High and CAN Low pins (typically blue and red wires) — it should read approximately 120 ohms

   Verify that the spool inside the valve body is not physically worn, stuck, or binding, which can prevent it from returning to neutral

   Ensure the low-pressure circuit supplying the actuator is providing correct hydraulic pressure

   Disconnect the electrical connector to the #8 rear remote pilot head.

   Remove the hex-headed screws securing the pilot head to the top of the remote valve slice.

   Carefully lift the pilot head off the valve body.

   Clean the mating surface on the valve slice.

   Remove and discard the old O-rings between the slice and the pilot head.

   Install the new O-rings and mount the new pilot head actuator.

   Torque the hex screws to OEM spec.

   Connect the Electronic Service Tool (EST) and reassign the valve addresses.

   You must reassign the valve addresses so the UCM knows which cab lever controls the newly installed #8 valve.

   Perform the EHR valve calibration procedure using the EST.

   This tunes the valve for proper flow and function. The valve may operate without calibration, but flow control (especially for constant-flow hydraulic motors) will be erratic.
