Case IH 2260 (519185.05) - DEC – Transmission Control Module (TCM): Synchro F Solenoid - open circuit

An "open circuit" fault for a transmission synchro solenoid indicates that the electrical path to or through the solenoid coil is broken. When the controller attempts to actuate the Synchro F solenoid to shift gears or ranges, it does not detect the expected return current. This condition is typically caused by a disconnected electrical plug, a severed wire in the transmission harness, or a burnt-out internal solenoid coil.

   Visual Inspection: Inspect the transmission wiring harness and the electrical connector at the Synchro F solenoid for physical damage, corrosion, or loose pins.

   Coil Resistance Test: Disconnect the electrical plug from the solenoid. Using a multimeter, measure the resistance across the solenoid's terminals. If the multimeter reads infinite resistance (OL), the solenoid coil has an internal open circuit and is defective.

   Harness Continuity Test: If the solenoid coil tests within normal resistance specifications, the open circuit is in the wiring. Test the continuity of the harness from the solenoid connector back to the Transmission Controller pins to locate the broken wire.

   Park and secure tractor

   Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the ignition.

   Clean valve block area

   Clean the area around the transmission valve block to prevent debris from entering the hydraulic system.

   Disconnect harness

   Disconnect the electrical harness from the faulty Synchro F solenoid.

   Remove retaining hardware

   Remove the retaining bolts or snap ring securing the solenoid to the valve block.

   Extract solenoid

   Extract the faulty solenoid.

   Install new solenoid

   Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid with clean transmission fluid and carefully install it into the valve block.

   Secure and reconnect

   Secure the solenoid with its retaining hardware and reconnect the electrical harness.

   Perform calibration

   Perform a transmission calibration routine. The transmission controller typically requires recalibration whenever a transmission clutch, synchronizer, or solenoid component is serviced or replaced.
