2261 (519185.04) - DEC

Case IH 2261 (519185.04) - DEC – DEC / ECU A-095: Synchro F Solenoid - short to GND

Issue description

The electrical circuit controlling the Synchro F (Forward or F-range transmission synchronizer) solenoid has shorted to ground, bypassing the intended electrical load. Alternatively, this code may indicate battery voltage is very low or lower than expected.

Applies to these machines

  • MAXXUM T4E
  • Puma
  • Farmall 85C
  • Farmall 95C
  • Farmall 105C
  • Farmall 105U

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the relevant transmission harnesses and connectors leading to the transmission synchronizer solenoids for chafing, melted insulation, or pinched wires.

  2. If the machine is logging 2261 as a voltage error (alternative definition), perform a parasitic draw test to measure excessive current draw from the battery.

  3. Check the ECU (such as A-095) for the appropriate software version and re-flash if necessary.

Repair steps

  1. Locate shorted wire

Locate the shorted wire in the transmission harness using a multimeter (checking for continuity to ground on the solenoid's power circuit).

  2. Repair or replace wiring

Repair or replace the damaged section of the wiring harness.

  3. Replace solenoid

If the wiring is intact, replace the internally shorted Synchro F Solenoid on the transmission valve body.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Transmission Synchronizer Solenoid (Synchro F) / PWM Valve Solenoid

Must be matched to the specific transmission valve body (e.g., Powershift or CVT) of the exact Case IH tractor model being serviced.
