Case IH 2265 – Engine Control Module (ECM / ENG): Electric Lift Pump for Engine Fuel Supply Circuit - Voltage Above Normal or Shorted to High Source

The Engine Control Module (ECM) has detected a high voltage or an open circuit at the fuel lift pump signal circuit. This fault code is triggered if the ECM detects an open circuit or short when the key is ON. The primary symptom of this fault is that the engine will be difficult to start or may experience a loss of power.

   Perform an audible check by turning the key switch to the ON position (do not crank) and listening for the electric fuel lift pump to run continuously for about 30 seconds.

   Inspect the electric lift pump connector and the ECM harness connectors for loose pins, pushed-back terminals, moisture, or corrosion.

   Disconnect the lift pump and measure the fuel lift pump circuit resistance to check for an open circuit or a stalled rotor.

   Use a multimeter to check for a pin-to-pin short circuit in the engine harness.

   If the pump turns on but the engine is still hard to start, measure the lift pump pressure and flow to ensure it is within specification.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn the key switch to the OFF position and disconnect the battery ground cable to prevent electrical spikes.

   Harness Repair

   If your multimeter tests in the diagnostic phase revealed a short or open circuit in the wiring harness (greater than 100k ohms), repair the damaged section of the OEM wiring or replace the pigtail connector.

   Replace the Lift Pump

   If the harness tests good but the pump fails to run (or has internal open resistance), disconnect the electrical connector at the lift pump, place a drain pan underneath, disconnect the fuel inlet and outlet lines, unbolt the assembly, install the new pump, torque to OEM spec, and reconnect the fuel lines.

   Prime the System

   Reconnect the batteries. Turn the key to the ON position for 30 seconds to allow the new pump to prime the fuel system. You may need to cycle the key 2-3 times to fully bleed the air.

   Clear Codes

   The fault code can usually be cleared by cycling the key switch once the underlying open circuit or high voltage condition is resolved.
