Case IH 2265 – Engine Controller (ENG / ECU): Electric Lift Pump for Engine Fuel Supply Voltage too high

Issue description

The engine controller is detecting an abnormally high voltage on the circuit responsible for controlling the electric fuel lift pump (priming pump), usually pointing to a short circuit to a high voltage source.

Applies to these machines

  • Steiger T4B
  • Magnum MX215
  • Magnum MX245
  • Magnum MX275

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the fuel priming pump control signal circuit for a short to a high voltage source.

  2. Check the wiring harness and connectors between the Engine ECU and the electric lift pump for rubbed-through wires, corrosion, or melted insulation.

  3. Test the electric lift pump itself for an internal short circuit.

  4. Verify that the machine's overall battery/charging voltage is not spiking excessively, which can trigger high-voltage codes across engine sensors and pumps.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Disconnect the machine's battery to prevent further electrical damage.

  2. Repair Wiring

If a short is found in the harness between the ECU and the lift pump, repair or replace the damaged wiring section.

  3. Replace the Pump

If the electric lift pump is internally shorted or has failed due to the voltage spike, remove the fuel lines and mounting hardware, and install the new electric lift pump.

  4. Filter Replacement

If replacing the fuel filters alongside the pump, do not pre-fill the pressure (secondary) filter. You may pre-fill the suction-side (primary/10-micron) filter from the outer inlet holes using a clean fuel source.

  5. Bleed the Fuel System

Turn the key switch to the ON position (do not crank the engine). Let the electric lift pump run for its pre-set time (approximately 30 seconds). Turn the key switch to the OFF position. Repeat this cycle a minimum of six times to thoroughly purge air from the high-pressure common-rail (HPCR) fuel system.
