Case IH 2272 – ZDC: ZDC - CAN message DispVehicleConfig2 signal TransOutShaftSensorPulsesDiff is Not Plausible
Issue description
The transmission controller is receiving an invalid, erratic, or mathematically impossible signal over the CAN bus regarding the difference in pulses from the transmission output shaft speed sensors, suggesting a mismatch between the physical speed sensor readings and the vehicle configuration data.

Check the cause
Check the diagnostic display for other active CAN communication faults or speed sensor faults (such as SPN 161/162) and diagnose the CAN bus first if present.
Verify that the tractor's configuration settings in the AFS display (such as tire size, radar settings, and transmission type) are correct and have not been corrupted.
Inspect the transmission output speed sensors (TOS) wiring harness and sealed multi-pin weather-pack connectors for corrosion, moisture, or backed-out pins.
Check the magnetic induction/Hall effect sensor tips for accumulated metal shavings from the transmission oil, which can cause erratic pulse readings.
Repair steps
Power Down
Safely park the tractor, engage the parking brake, and turn off the ignition to de-energize the ZDC controller (KL15 circuit).
Access the Sensors
Locate the transmission output speed sensors on the transmission casing. (Note: The system compares signals from TOS Sensor #1 and TOS Sensor #2; if they differ implausibly, a fault is thrown).
Remove and Clean
Disconnect the electrical connector. Unbolt and remove the sensor. Inspect the magnetic tip. If it is covered in heavy metal debris, clean it thoroughly. (Note: Heavy metal debris may indicate internal transmission wear).
Test or Replace
If the sensor tip is clean but the wiring is damaged, or if the sensor fails a resistance check, replace the sensor.
Install New Sensor
Lubricate the pre-installed heavy-duty synthetic rubber O-ring on the new sensor with clean transmission fluid. Insert the sensor into the casing port and tighten the retaining bolt.
Reconnect and Clear
Reconnect the wiring harness. Turn on the ignition, clear the fault codes via the diagnostic menu, and perform a test drive to ensure the ZDC is receiving plausible output shaft pulse data and shifting smoothly.
