Case IH 2275 (518704.19) - DEC – DEC: CAN 2 - LeftBrakeSts Error
Issue description
The code indicates a network communication error on CAN Bus 2 specifically related to the Left Brake Status (LeftBrakeSts). The control module is receiving invalid data, missing data, or incorrectly formatted data packets over CAN Bus 2 regarding the position or status of the left brake pedal.
Applies to these machines
6 machines- MAXXUM T4E
- VESTRUM CVX
- Puma
- Maxxum
- Magnum
- Steiger
Check the cause
Verify the Code: Check if the code is active or stored. If stored, clear it and press the left brake pedal to see if it returns.
Check Sensor Connection: Inspect the presence and correct connection of the left brake switch/sensor to the network.
Inspect Wiring: Check the wiring harness between the left brake pedal sensor and the main cab harness for chafing, corrosion, or pin damage.
CAN Bus Testing: Check the correct functioning of the CAN 2 controller and its voltage supply. Measure the resistance across the CAN 2 High and CAN 2 Low pins (should typically be 60 ohms if the network is intact).
Repair steps
Disconnect battery
Disconnect the battery to ensure safety while working on the electrical system.
Locate sensor
Locate the left brake status switch/sensor at the base of the left brake pedal assembly.
Clean contacts
Disconnect the sensor connector and clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner.
Repair wiring
If the wiring harness shows visible damage, repair the broken/chafed wires and apply heat shrink.
Replace sensor
If the wiring and CAN network test normal, replace the left brake status switch/sensor.
Clear fault code
Reconnect the battery, turn the key to the ON position, and use a diagnostic tool to clear the fault code.
Test pedal
Test the left brake pedal to ensure the code does not return and the brake lights/transmission disconnect operate correctly.
