Case IH 2276 (518703.19) - DEC – Vehicle Control Unit (VCU), Transmission Control Unit (TCU), or Cab Controller: CAN 2 - RightBrakeSts Error

Communication failure on the Controller Area Network (CAN) regarding the status of the right brake pedal. The controller is expecting a signal broadcasting the Right Brake Status (RightBrakeSts) over the CAN 2 network, but the data is either missing, timed out, or invalid.

   Inspect the right brake pedal sensor/switch connector for bent pins, corrosion, or moisture

   Verify that the signal is passing through the pedal harness by checking harness continuity

   Test the ground wire continuity at the brake sensor connector

   Inspect the CAN 2 High and CAN 2 Low wires between the cab pedal assembly and the main module for open circuits, shorts to ground, or shorts to power

   Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery

   Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.

   Locate the right brake pedal status sensor/switch

   Locate the right brake pedal status sensor/switch in the cab footwell.

   Disconnect the sensor harness and perform a visual inspection

   Disconnect the sensor harness and perform a visual inspection of the wiring.

   Perform a continuity test on the CAN 2 communication wires

   Using a multimeter, perform a continuity test on the CAN 2 communication wires back to the module.

   Repair the damaged section of the harness or replace the connector

   If the wiring harness is faulty or shorted, repair the damaged section of the harness or replace the connector.

   Replace the right brake sensor

   If the wiring and ground test good but the module still cannot read the Right Brake Status, replace the right brake sensor.

   Reconnect the battery, start the machine, and clear the inactive fault codes

   Reconnect the battery, start the machine, and clear the inactive fault codes using the AFS Pro display or a diagnostic tool.
