Case IH 2276 – ZDC: ZDC - CAN message ExtPoti00 signal InchPedalValue Error or Not Available

The transmission controller is not receiving a valid position signal for the Inching Pedal over the CAN bus network. The signal broadcasted via the CAN message ExtPoti00 is either out of its calibrated voltage range, erratic, or completely missing, which typically results in the tractor defaulting to neutral or limiting maximum travel speed.

   Verify sensor data by monitoring the Inching Pedal raw voltage or percentage on the diagnostic screen; the value should change smoothly without dropping out when the pedal is depressed.

   Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the clutch pedal potentiometer and the cab controller for chafed wires, pinched harnesses near the pedal pivot, or corroded pins.

   Check CAN bus integrity by verifying if other CAN-related fault codes are present, which would indicate a damaged CAN bus wire or failing cab controller rather than a bad sensor.

   Ensure the mechanical pedal linkage is not jammed, loose, or preventing the potentiometer from sweeping its full range.

   Access the Sensor

   Locate the clutch pedal potentiometer, which is mounted directly to the pivot assembly of the inching/clutch pedal inside the cab console.

   Test/Replace the Sensor

   If the wiring tests good but the sensor output is erratic or dead, disconnect the electrical harness and remove the retaining screws holding the potentiometer. Install the new potentiometer, ensuring the mechanical tangs align correctly with the pedal pivot.

   Repair Wiring

   If a short or open circuit was found during diagnostics, splice and heat-shrink the damaged wires or replace the damaged connector pigtail.

   Perform Calibration

   After replacing the sensor or repairing the wiring, you must perform an Inching Pedal / Clutch Pedal Calibration via the tractor's H-Menu (diagnostic menu) or an electronic service tool.
