Case IH 2277 (517637.19) - DEC – DEC: CAN 2 - CltchPedTorqLim Error
Issue description
The system is reporting a communication failure on the Controller Area Network 2 (CAN 2) bus. Specifically, the controller is receiving invalid, missing, or corrupted data regarding the 'Clutch Pedal Torque Limit' (the signal that tells the machine to limit torque based on the clutch pedal's position).
Applies to these machines
3 machines- MAXXUM T4E
- VESTRUM CVX
- Modern Case IH tractors equipped with CAN bus architecture and electronic clutch pedal torque limiting
Check the cause
Inspect the CAN 2 High and CAN 2 Low wiring harness between the cab (clutch pedal area) and the DEC for physical damage, chafing, or corrosion.
Verify the CAN 2 network integrity by testing the 120 Ohm terminating resistors on the cab/transmission harness.
Check the clutch pedal position sensor/potentiometer to ensure it is securely mounted and that its signal voltage changes smoothly (typically > 0%) when the pedal is depressed.
Cycle the ignition to see if the active error status clears or if it is a hard fault.
Repair steps
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery
to prevent electrical shorts.
Locate the clutch pedal position sensor
at the base of the clutch pedal assembly inside the cab.
Disconnect the sensor's pigtail connector and inspect the pins
for pushed-out terminals or moisture intrusion. Clean with contact cleaner if necessary.
Replace the clutch pedal potentiometer
If the wiring is intact but the sensor fails a resistance/sweep test, remove the mounting hardware and replace the clutch pedal potentiometer.
Trace the CAN 2 wiring harness back to the DEC
If the sensor is good, trace the CAN 2 wiring harness back to the DEC, repairing any broken wires or replacing damaged sections of the harness.
Reconnect the battery, turn the ignition on, and clear the error memory
Depress the clutch pedal to verify the torque limit signal is now being received by the DEC without throwing a CAN 2 error.
