Case IH 2282 (517659.19) - DEC – DEC: CAN 2 - RPTO_BrakeRleasCmd Error
Issue description
Communication or command error on the CAN 2 network regarding the RPTO_BrakeRleasCmd (Rear Power Take-Off Brake Release Command). The controller fails to successfully transmit, receive, or validate the command signal to release the Rear PTO brake over the CAN 2 bus.

Check the cause
CAN 2 Network Test: Check the CAN 2 HI (Pin C) and CAN 2 LO (Pin D) lines on the EHR bus for proper voltage and continuity. Verify the CAN 2 terminating resistors are intact.
Solenoid Current Feedback: Use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to monitor the "RPTO solenoid current feedback". If the command is sent but no current is drawn, the issue is likely the solenoid or the physical wiring harness.
Wiring Harness Inspection: Locate the wiring for the "P RPTO BRAKE SOL" (Rear PTO Brake Solenoid). Check for shorts to ground, shorts to battery, or open circuits in the harness between the DEC and the valve block.
Switch Verification: Ensure the PTO cab switch and fender-mounted PTO switches are not stuck or shorted, as conflicting signals can interrupt the command state.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to safely work on the CAN bus and DEC wiring.
Inspect the Valve Block
Locate the Rear PTO hydraulic valve block at the rear of the tractor.
Test the Solenoid
Disconnect the electrical connector at the RPTO Brake Release Solenoid. Measure the resistance across the solenoid pins. If it is out of specification (open or shorted internally), the solenoid must be replaced.
Repair Wiring
If the solenoid tests good, trace the wiring back to the DEC (Controller A-010). Repair any chafed wires or corroded pins at the connectors.
Replace Hydraulic Poppet (If Leaking/Stuck)
If the electrical command is reaching the valve but the brake is not releasing mechanically, the internal poppet valve may be stuck or damaged, requiring replacement.
Recalibrate
After replacing electrical or hydraulic components, reconnect the battery, clear the fault codes using the EST, and perform the PTO actuator calibration procedure to ensure optimal performance.
