Case IH 2283-07 - UCM – UCM: Information from front pilot head #1 that the spool valve is stuck
Issue description
The microprocessor in the #1 front pilot head has commanded the spool to move, but the position sensor detects that the main spool valve inside the valve body is physically stuck, binding, or not moving as requested.
Applies to these machines
2 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- Steiger AFS Connect
Check the cause
Clear the code and test the system for normal operation to see if it was an intermittent glitch.
Verify that the regulated circuit hydraulic pressures are within spec, as the remote valve requires regulated/transmission system hydraulic pressure to move the valve spool.
Ensure all pilot heads are flashed with the most current software level (all pilot heads on the stack must be at the same software level) and attempt to recalibrate via the cab display.
Remove the pilot head from the #1 remote valve body and press on the end of the spool with your thumb. If it binds, the issue is mechanical; if it moves freely, the issue is electronic.
Repair steps
Relieve Pressure
Turn off the tractor and relieve hydraulic pressure before servicing the valve stack.
Address Mechanical Binding
If the spool is stuck, remove the spool and clean it thoroughly (do not use abrasives on the spool or bore). Re-torque the valve stack to factory specifications to ensure the housing isn't warping and pinching the spool.
Address Electronic Failure
If the spool moves freely by hand but the code persists, the pilot head's internal position sensor or solenoid has failed. Unbolt the faulty pilot head and install a new one.
Post-Repair Calibration
After replacing a pilot head, renumber (address) the remote valves so the UCM recognizes the new module's position on the CAN bus. Perform the EHR valve calibration procedure using the tractor's display to learn the new spool travel limits.
